Or so it seems. The alarm, the groan and the day begins.
It is the first day of the new term. The students begin officially returning today. Some have been hanging out in the area for the last week, stopping by and exchanging pleasantries. Today they return in earnest.
The holiday season is now a fading memory. All the rest, relaxation and quiet (wait, did I have any of that?) is over and the rush takes over. There will be bright spots this term; a new grandchild will join the family in February. There will be dark spots too; an elderly relative is not doing so well.
With this start, I turned again to the Morning prayer of the daily office. Isaiah 30 provided a helpful insight for this corner. I can try and rely on my own strength, or past successes, or future dreams but it will not suffice. My hope lies in the words of the prophet. This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength- 30:15a

How did your day begin?
